OPPORTUNITY
The BelRed Arts District Community Alliance is pleased to announce its second Artist-In-Residence Program of the year, in partnership with Densho.
For 30 years, Densho has been a leading digital archive of Japanese American incarceration history. Its mission is to preserve and share history of the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans to promote equity and justice today.
This residency invites artists to engage with the history of Bellevue's Japanese American community, who were unjustly incarcerated during World War II, and to connect this history to ongoing issues of racial injustice, inequity and the erosion of civil liberties. Questions of constitutional rights and human dignity are central the Japanese American incarceration story and remain urgently relevant today.

The second annual BelRed Arts Night Market returns! We’re bringing together live cultural performances, artists, local creative organizations/businesses and food trucks for an immersive experience in the heart of Bellevue’s BelRed Arts District. The event expects to see over 500 people.

OPPORTUNITY
The BelRed Arts District Community Alliance seeks artist to add to BelRed’s Public Art Program by designing and installing a large-scale artwork installation in the BelRed Arts district. This artist call is open to local, career-level artists living in King County - preferably on the Eastside – that have completed at least 3-5 previous artwork installation on exterior walls. The final selected artist will contract with the BelRed Arts District Community Alliance for $8000, covering the artist’s time, labor and supplies. The Community Alliance will handle any equipment necessary for installation, including outdoor-grade hardware and lift.
GOALS OF THE ARTWORK
-Unique to this project
-Tells the story, vision and brand of the BelRed Arts District
-Provides fun and engaging experiences for those passing by the art installation from different perspective (train, car, sidewalk or adjacent building)
-Increases the visibility and awareness of the BelRed Arts District and serves as one of the key anchors
-Achievable and feasible
-Colorful and vibrant but fits well into the overall environment and works well with the other murals in the vicinity.
